Secondary school students with an interest or passion in the arts are encouraged to enter Mildura Rural City Council’s FReeZA Youth Art Prize 2020.

Entries are open now in the following categories – drawing, painting, photography and graphic design.

Council’s Youth Services team has created a new, easy-to-navigate online entry process, allowing the Youth Art Prize to continue despite COVID-19 restrictions.

Artists simply need to visit www.mildura.vic.gov.au/Services/Youth/Youth-Art-Prize, fill in the online entry form, and upload both their artwork and a photo of themselves with their artwork.

Entries must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 29 May. Judging will take place on Friday 5 June ahead of winners being announced on Monday 8 June.

The winner of each category will receive a prize valued at $100 and a certificate. Prizes will be posted on Friday 12 June.

Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Gavin Sedgmen encouraged secondary school-age residents to enter the competition.

“We’re fortunate to have a thriving arts culture in our region, and competitions such as our Youth Art Prize help us foster the next generation of local artists,” Cr Sedgmen said.

“It also provides a unique outlet for young people to explore their chosen interest in the arts and showcase their work to the entire region.

“And with current COVID-19 restrictions, our Youth Art Prize provides another outlet to keep young people active and engaged.”
