Tobacco Regulation Local Government Responsibilities
Council has a role under the Tobacco Act 1987 (the Act), that is funded by the Municipal Association of Victoria Tobacco Education and Enforcement Program.
It is Councils role to provide education and monitor compliance with the general retail and smoke free and e-cigarette (vape) free requirements of the Act. Council is not responsible for the tobacco licensing scheme or illegal tobacco products or e-cigarettes (vapes).
