Portfolio: Community Development and Gender Equity
After completing a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Cr Katie Clements began her career in tourism before marrying her husband, Mal, and raising their two daughters in Mildura. As her family grew, she worked in the retail telecommunications industry during a period of rapid technological change before discovering her passion for education.
Katie is an English teacher and Leading Teacher at Mildura Senior College and has also taught Humanities and English in other schools in the region.
As portfolio Councillor for Community Development and Gender Equity, Katie is committed to building a thriving, inclusive and sustainable community. She believes strong regional communities are created by investing in education, supporting local employment and industry, improving community safety and ensuring people have access to the services they need to live healthy and connected lives. She is particularly passionate about creating opportunities for young people so they can build their futures in our municipality.
Katie has a long history of community service beyond Council. She is a founding member of the Sunraysia Suicide Prevention Network and continues to advocate for improved mental health awareness and support, informed by both personal and professional experience. She also serves as a foundation member of the Mildura Base Public Hospital Consumer Advisory Committee, where she contributes to improving local health services through community representation.
Katie is passionate about regional development, education, social justice and environmental sustainability, believing that rural communities should have access to the same opportunities as metropolitan areas. She believes strong communities are built by listening first, working collaboratively, and making decisions that leave the region better for future generations.
