Mildura Rural City Council’s annual Australia Day Awards celebrate the achievements and contributions of individuals and community organisations or groups in our region. These prestigious awards are one of the highest honours Council can bestow to publicly acknowledge local heroes, whose dedication and contributions may otherwise go unnoticed.

Recipients of these awards will be announced by the Mayor at our official Australia Day celebrations on 26 January 2021.

*Please note this event is subject to COVID-19 restrictions. More information regarding our Australia Day Awards event will be shared via our website and social media channels closer to the date.

Award categories

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Community Project or Event of the Year

Nomination forms

Nomination forms are only available when the nomination period is open. You can download nomination forms and background information from the links below.

A media release will also be published closer to the nomination period to advise of specific dates. Council will also publish the nomination period in local print media, this website and on its Facebook page.

Nominations require information about who is being nominated, reasons for nominating, who has nominated them and details of referees.

See the links below for nomination criteria for each award, including eligibility.

When the nomination period is open, you can obtain a copy of the form in the following ways:

  • Complete the online nomination process click here to nominate
  • Call or email us for a copy to be sent to you electronically or by mail
  • Download a nomination form from the links below and return by email or mail

How to compile your nomination

Nominations must be submitted either online, or using the official Mildura Rural City Council Australia Day Awards 2021 Nomination Form.

The answer to the question, ‘Why are you nominating this person/project/event?” requires a minimum of 100 words.  Include as much detail as you can in this section as this forms the majority of the material to be assessed by the judging panel.

Additional details can be included in a separate document along with details/copies of any other awards or supporting documents (i.e. newspaper or magazine articles about the Nominee and their achievements).

Please provide all required information on the nomination form. Failure to provide complete information may result in the nomination not being considered

Selection Process

Following the close of nominations, the Australia Day Awards Selection Panel will score nominations based on the Selection Criteria.

In the event that no nominations are received in any of the categories, the Australia Day Awards Selection Panel reserves the right to grant the award to a group, project/event or citizen of its choice.
