Sunraysia’s aspiring young film-makers have a chance to showcase their work to a broader audience through Mildura Rural City Council’s 2020 FReeZA Show Us Your Shorts film competition.

An initiative of Council’s Youth Services team, the competition is free to enter for all locally-based secondary school students.

Entries are now open for the competition, which will culminate in a special viewing at Mildura Arts Centre (MAC) later this year, showcasing each entry.

Films must be between three and 10 minutes long, and need to be a finished product, requiring no further editing.

Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Gavin Sedgmen encouraged the region’s young film-makers to take part in the competition.

“This is a great opportunity for young people with an interest in film-making or multimedia to further explore and develop their talents, as well as sharing them with like-minded artists in our community,” Cr Sedgmen said.

Entries will be judged by an independent panel. The winning entry will receive a $300 prize. There will also be a $200 People’s Choice award.

Due to COVID-19 precautions, entries can only be submitted using the free online file transfer service WeTransfer. Entries will be accepted until 5pm on Friday 9 October. For further details on the entry process and conditions visit www.mildura.vic.gov.au and search for ‘show us your shorts’.

The competition will conclude with a showcase of all entries at a special viewing at MAC on Monday 26 October, which is open to all competitors and their families and friends. Further details about the viewing night will be released closer to the date, to ensure adherence to any COVID-19 restrictions that apply at the time.
