Mildura Rural City Council is calling for community input and feedback on a proposed amendment to the Mildura Planning Scheme.

Mayor Jason Modica said the Mildura Planning Scheme is a pivotal document, setting out the ‘do’s and don’ts’ in terms of how our municipality is to be developed.

“The Mildura Planning Scheme guides how development progresses in our region, ensuring it strikes the balance between allowing our city to grow and prosper without compromising key elements that make our municipality unique,” Cr Modica said.

Amendment C104mild includes a number of changes aimed at improving the structure and layout of the Planning Scheme for ease of use and understanding.

It also updates future planning strategies and local planning policies for Mildura, changes some zones and overlays and how they are applied, adds a number of adopted strategic plans and corrects mapping and text errors.

Cr Modica said Amendment C104mild is now on public exhibition, inviting the community to view the full details and share their thoughts.

“This is an important opportunity as town planners refer to the Mildura Planning Scheme when assessing and issuing planning permit applications,” he said.

“The Planning Scheme is also used to provide information and advice to companies and developers who are interested in investing in our area.”

State government legislation requires Council review its Planning Scheme, in consultation with the community, every four years.

“We started working on this review in 2018 and after considerable consultation already we’re now set to take the final step in officially updating the Mildura Planning Scheme,” Cr Modica said.

Members of the public are invited to review the proposed amendment and make submissions regarding it. Council will then review submissions and submit a final amendment to the state government’s Minister for Planning for approval.

Copies of Amendment C104mild are available online at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/HaveYourSay, and from Council’s Madden Avenue Service Centre.

Submissions regarding Amendment C104mild will be received up until Monday 18 October 2021.

Submissions should be directed to:
