Palm to be removed from Eighth and Madden roundabout

Published on 27 April 2016

A dead palm tree in the centre plantation of the Eighth Street and Madden Avenue roundabout will be removed on Sunday 1 May, with a new tree to be planted later in the year.

Three palms were planted in April 2014 during the installation of the new roundabout and while two palms have become established, the third has not survived transplantation.

Environmental Sustainability Councillor Judi Harris said the Washingtonia Robusta or Skyduster palms were originally moved from other Council properties and were chosen to complement the overall theme of the Mildura central business district.

“All three palms looked quite sick when first transplanted and we are disappointed to see one has not survived.  We will be removing the dead palm over the next weekend and will replace it with a palm of similar size later in the year.”

The removal works will see the road closed on Sunday morning for a short period and motorists are asked to be patient or to find an alternate route during the removal.  The bracings holding the three trees in place will also be removed during the works.
