Sunraysia motorsport clubs and groups are invited to submit expressions of interest for a place on the Mildura Regional Motorsport Alliance.

The Alliance is a formal committee comprising representatives of local motorsport clubs and other bodies which will sit within and drive the broader Mildura Regional Motorsport Strategy.

Mildura Mayor Liam Wood said the Alliance will for the first time unite local motorsport clubs under the one banner, providing opportunities for shared ideas and resources and a stronger and more coordinated approach to growing motorsport in the region.

“The Alliance will serve two important roles,” the Mayor said.

“At this point in development of the strategy, which has now been completed in draft form, it will guide the direction of the final document, along with the plethora of information which has already been gathered this year.

“Once the strategy is in place, the Alliance will continue to drive coordinated growth of motorsport in the region, providing recommendations to Council and other government bodies relating to economic outcomes, infrastructure development and community participation in motorsport.”

The Alliance will meet every two months once established.

To submit an expression of interest visit www.mildura.vic.gov.au/MRMS. Expressions of interest must be submitted by Wednesday 20 September. For more information contact Strategic Projects Officer Mike Wall on 03 5018 8100 or email events@mildura.vic.gov.au

The call for expressions of interest follows an exhaustive amount of work since March this year to complete the draft strategy.

This has included close to 40 one-on-one interviews with local motorsport club representatives, competitors and national motorsport bodies.

There have also been site visits to all local motorsport venues, attendance at a host of major events, post-event participant experience e-surveys, club facility audits and a number of community focus sessions.

A series of ‘quick wins’ have also been identified, including support to develop and implement club-level strategic and/or facility enhancement plans and appointment of a Council-funded project officer to support with the clubs/with this work.

The final draft of the Regional Motorsport Strategy, which is largely funded by Sport and Recreation Victoria, is expected to be presented to Council at the end of the year.
