A multi-level skyway and tower, flying foxes and rock walls are just some of the features included in an exciting new adventure park set to replace the existing Nowingi Place playground.

The Nowingi Place Adventure Park will transform the existing playground site, providing a unique experience for all ages, boasting activities not available anywhere else in our broader region.

Mildura Mayor Liam Wood said the adventure park would have a transformative impact on the Nowingi Place end of Mildura's riverfront precinct.

"This is one of the most exciting developments along our beautiful riverfront and will be something that visitors to our region will talk about on their return home, and provide something very special for our community to enjoy," Cr Wood said.

The Nowingi Place Adventure Park will cover an area more than twice the size of the existing playground and include:

  • Multi-level skyway and tower and enclosed tube slide
  • Embankment slides
  • Log stacks and stumps
  • Climbing arbour dome
  • Flying foxes
  • Rock walls
  • Swings
  • Carousel and balance beams.

Cr Wood said the sheer scale of the new adventure park will be an attraction people will see crossing the George Chaffey Bridge as they enter Mildura and provide another drawcard to the thriving riverfront precinct.

He said that in addition to the higher-profile features of the adventure park, such as the skyway tower and flying foxes, the park would also include natural elements such as rocks and log balancing beams, ensuring there was a strong focus on nature play as well.

"Development of this exciting new park was guided by our Playground Strategy and aims to provide access for people of all ages, and all abilities," Cr Wood said.

"Whether its log beams, rock walls and other more nature-based activities, which encourage children to think and come up with creative ways to enjoy these spaces, or more structured activities, the Nowingi Place Adventure Park will be something everyone can enjoy, even us adults!"

The new park will also include a broad range of shade, shelter and seating options. Where possible, shade will be provided using trees.

Cr Wood said the Nowingi Place Adventure Park would provide a broad range of benefits for our region.

"Most importantly, this amazing new venue will serve our community. It will provide a fantastic space for parents to socialise while their children are staying active, engaged and entertained with a whole host of activities to enjoy," he said.

"It will also add to the already strong drawcard our riverfront precinct represents from a tourism perspective, providing yet another major attraction for visitors to talk about, to look forward to, which ultimately drives economic development across our entire region."

Work on the $750,000 Nowingi Place Adventure Park is expected to start early in the second half of this year. Once construction starts it is expected to take about 16 weeks to complete, subject to availability of materials and contractors.
