If there is a young person aged 12 to 25 you believe is worthy of recognition for their actions or achievements, consider nominating them for this year’s Mildura Rural City Council Youth Awards.

Nominations for the awards are now open, providing a chance to recognise and celebrate young people who have, or are currently, making significant contributions in the community.

Nominations are open in the following categories:

Youth Carer Award
This award recognises an individual who is a carer for a family member, relative or friend with a disability, mental illness or chronic condition.

Youth Volunteer Award
This category recognises a young person who regularly gives up his or her valuable time for the benefit of the community or an organisation.

Youth Community Group Award
This category recognises a group of young people who have shown outstanding dedication through their involvement or participation in the community and have made a significant difference.

Youth Artistic Individual Award
This category recognises a group or young person who has demonstrated initiative, innovation and made a positive community contribution through drama, visual arts, performing arts, technical support, debating, literacy pursuits or music.

Mildura Mayor Jason Modica said the awards were a great way to ensure the community was made aware of the achievements of our region’s young people and could celebrate them.

“We have some amazing young people in our municipality who tirelessly go about their passion, area of interest or duties without seeking awards or recognition,” Cr Modica said.

“Our Youth Awards are about ensuring their contributions to our region don’t go unnoticed or unrecognised.

“Key to ensuring this recognition is acquaintances, relatives, friends, or just people who hear about the achievements of a young person, nominating them for an award.”

The awards are open to young people aged 12 to 25 who live, study or work in the Mildura Rural City Council area.

Nominations can be made by visiting www.mildura.vic.gov.au/services/youth-awards or contacting Council’s Youth Services Team on (03) 5018 8100. Nominations close on Friday 12 March.

For those who may have a recipient in mind, but are short on time, Council’s Youth Engagement Services team have created a referral process to make it as quick and easy as possible to nominate someone.

Simply fill out a referral form, which is available on the Youth Awards page, and the Youth Engagement Services team will contact the person making the nomination and collect the required information.

All nominees will be recognised at a formal dinner to be held on Thursday 8 April and will receive a certificate from Council for their achievements or contribution to the community.

Individual award winners will receive a $100 voucher and winning groups will receive a $200 voucher.

Judging will be based on the nomination form and individual interviews, achievements over the past year, participation in their chosen field and selection criteria.

For more information contact Youth Development Officer Barbara Clifford on (03) 5018 8100.
