More than 80 Regional Aviation Association of Australia (RAAA) members will converge on Mildura this week for the start of the organisation’s new regional roadshow series.

The event will be held this Thursday and Friday at the Quality Hotel Mildura Grand.

The RAAA is a not-for-profit organisation which aims to protect, represent and promote the interests of regional aviation organisations across Australia.

Mildura Airport is among member organisations set to take part in this week’s event, which has been supported through Council’s Events Funding and Support Recovery Fund.

Topics for discussion over the two-day event include an update on the impacts and recovery from COVID-19 for the aviation sector, which will be provided by the Department of Infrastructure Transport, Regional Development and Communications.

Mildura Mayor Jason Modica said it was a coup to kick off the RAAA’s first ever regional roadshow in Mildura, replacing the organisation’s usual annual conference.

“I look forward to welcoming the more than 80 aviation industry representatives set to arrive in our city this week, which comes at an important time for aviation in regional areas,” Cr Modica said.

“It’s a chance to hear of the common and severe impacts of COVID-19 on regional aviation as well as some of the innovative ideas for recovery and the future of this sector."

RAAA CEO Steven Campbell said this week’s convention was a great opportunity to showcase the Sunraysia region to Association members.

“We have had a wonderful response to this launch event with over 80 delegates from around the country attending,” Mr Campbell said.

“I thank the Mildura Council for their great support and assistance through their Events Funding and Support Recovery Fund which has ensured this event could happen.”

“Our members are looking forward to their visit and the evening Paddle Steamer ride on the Mundoo, a Mildura icon.”

As part of this week’s event, an Alliance Airlines E-190 aircraft will land at Mildura Airport, bringing more than 30 attendees. It is scheduled to arrive about 9.30am Thursday.

Council will continue working to support other events and conferences in our region as COVID-19 restrictions ease. For more information visit our Business Events and Conferencing page at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/BusinessEvents
