Wentworth local history enthusiast Jenny Mcleod will be guest of honour at the next Mallee Living Histories event at the Mildura Library on Friday 7 October from 10.30am.

The Mallee Living Histories Project is a local initiative which has now captured almost 60 lived and living stories featuring Mallee residents.

Jenny will be discussing her family history at the 7 October chat alongside Rob Fleiner, who helped put her account together for the Mallee Living Histories Project.

Jenny’s story starts with her great-grandfather Arie Vandenberg, a crewman on the Koning Willem 11, which arrived in Australia in 1857.

Arie managed to survive a shipwreck on the boat’s arrival in Robe, South Australia, before settling in Wilcannia where he traded as a watchmaker and jeweller prior to opening a shop in Mildura.

His eldest son, Harry - Jenny’s grandfather – went on to have eight children, the older, Eric, being Jenny’s father.

Four generations of Jenny’s family have now called our region home.

All-comers are welcome to attend the event with a coffee in hand, or enjoy a coffee at Solunar prior to the 10.30am chat.
