With the festive season behind us, why not kick off your 2016 social calendar with Twilight, Mildura Arts Centre’s free outdoor event on the lawns this Friday?

Twilight showcases our region’s local talent and gives the community opportunity to access MAC after hours.

This week live music will be performed by Brent Sullivan and Catherine Hall who formed the duo, The Silver Session, three years ago.

Arts and Culture Portfolio Councillor Jill Joslyn said Brent Sullivan had previously played in rock bands before realising that his singing preferences leaned more towards the classical and crooner genres of music.

“Brent loves to perform and his most recent role was Freddy in Red Cliffs Musical Society production, My Fair Lady. He was also one of the local performers involved in the 2012 opening of the MAC theatre”.

“Catherine Hall comes from a musical family and has been playing piano since she was seven years old,” said Cr Joslyn.  “She has been a music teacher and accompanist in the region since the early 1990's, collaborating with many of our local talented musicians.

“For the past three years, Brent and Catherine have been playing as a duo and perform a variety of music genres from the classics to contemporary so you could hear anything from Nat King Cole, The Beatles, Chicago through to Michael Buble, Robbie Williams, Sam Smith and George Ezra”.

And while the music and drinks on the lawn is often the focus of the evening, Twilight is also about art.

If you visit Mildura Arts Centre at the moment you will see a caravan parked on the lawns. The van is part of a new exhibition from artist Domenico de Clario.

Domenico de Clario’s project walking slowly downhill officially opens on Thursday 11 February and he will be at Twilight to give visitors a sneak insight into the story behind the exhibition.

Don’t forget the great free kid’s activities on offer as well, with children having the opportunity this month to make teepees on the lawn.

Twilight at Mildura Arts Centre starts from 5pm to 8:30pm with The Silver Sessions live music from 6pm on Friday 15 December.

Drinks and snacks including antipasto platters are available from the café (No BYO alcohol).
