Last chance to send ideas to be part of 2026 Commonwealth Games

Published on 06 August 2022

Sunraysia community groups and businesses still have until the end of this coming week to put forward their ideas and interest in future opportunities to be part of the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The Victorian Government put out the call for ideas from communities across the state on how they can contribute to the success of the 2026 ‘Games, including peak bodies, businesses, Traditional Owners and community groups.

Submissions were originally open until 31 July, however the deadline was extended to this Friday, 12 August.

Mildura’s Deputy Mayor Jason Modica said this was a unique opportunity for locals to become part of Victoria’s biggest event of 2026.

“The Victorian Government is still finalising its plans for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, meaning there are still some great opportunities for us to put our community’s ideas forward,” Cr Modica said.

“While we know the ‘Games will be largely based in Bendigo, Ballarat, Geelong and Gippsland, it doesn’t mean there won’t be other opportunities associated with such a massive event, and we need to put our best foot forward.

“Examples could include everything from local businesses able to offer services such as equipment hire through to sites or venues for training camps.

“If our region can capture a share of this activity, it will not only allow us to enjoy the excitement of being involved in such an iconic event, but the economic benefits that could flow to our region as a result.

“If you, or your group or organisation, were close to completing your submission, or have simply just decided now to put forward your idea, you still have time.”

Expressions of interest can be made by filling out a simple online form on the Victorian Government’s Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games website at https://bit.ly/MilduraGamesIdeas
