Council is currently looking for expressions of interest from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the region to join the Aboriginal Action Committee (AAC).

Members of the committee work in collaboration with Council to provide recommendations, support, advice and guidance to Council to help the AAC achieve its aim of improving and enhancing the well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents.

This includes supporting Council’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and a range of Council and community projects aimed at improving opportunities, creating greater cultural understanding and respect, and increased recognition across the municipality.

Expressions of interest are now open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents and close on Friday, 23 February 2018.

Portfolio Councillor for Community Development & Gender Equality Ali Cupper encouraged residents to submit an EOI for the position.

“While progress has been made in creating greater cultural understanding, particularly through the adoption of our Reconciliation Action Plan and the success of events like the NAIDOC Corroboree, there is still a lot more to be done,” Cr Cupper said.

“This is a valuable opportunity for residents to really make a difference to the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in our community,” Cr Cupper said.

Residents wishing to submit an expression of interest can contact Council’s Social Inclusion Officer Catherine Thompson on (03) 5018 8100 or Catherine.Thompson@mildura.vic.gov.au.
