The Victorian Government has extended the deadline for pool and spa registrations from 1 June to 1 November this year.

The government says the extension is to provide home-owners with more time to register their pools and spas, as well as reduce the workload on councils dealing with the impacts of COVID-19.

As part of the new timelines, the government has also extended the deadline for lodging certificates of compliance by five months.

New Victorian Government regulations were introduced late last year requiring pools and spas be registered with local councils.

The new rules apply to any swimming pool and spa that can hold water to a depth greater than 30cm, including:

  • in-ground and above-ground pools and spas
  • indoor pools and spas
  • children’s paddling and wading pools
  • spas, jacuzzis, hot tubs and swim spas (including portable spas).

In addition, owners must have a registered building surveyor or inspector certify their safety barrier every four years and lodge a certificate of compliance with their council.
