If you want to find out the latest in sustainable living, how to make your existing or new home more energy efficient, or grow your own vegetables in a community garden, Mildura Eco Village is now more accessible than ever.

From this month, Mildura Eco Village buildings, the Education Centre and Eco House, will be open to the public from 9am to 4pm each Thursday with a representative on site to answer any questions or provide advice. The Mildura Eco Village grounds, including the Sustainable Play Space and Community Garden, are accessible seven days a week.

Councillor for Environment and Farming Sustainability Anthony Cirillo encouraged the community to take advantage of the diverse range of information and services available at the village.

“Whether it’s people who already come along to our open days throughout the year or people who’ve never seen what the facility has to offer, these regular open days are the perfect opportunity to learn more,” Cr Cirillo said.

Mildura Eco Village’s Eco House and Education Centre are valuable resources for people either building a new home, or considering making their existing home more energy efficient.

Features include information and examples of passive solar design, building materials, insulation, double glazing for doors and windows and heating and cooling solutions. There is also information available on solar energy systems and water storage options.

The popular Community Garden is a place where individuals, community groups and families can grow their own vegetables as well as meet like-minded people and learn new skills through both hands-on experience and workshops.

Mildura Eco Village also has 37 raised garden beds, allowing families or individuals to hire their own plot for an annual, minimal fee.

The village is also a great place to find out more about the Sunraysia Sustainability Network and any upcoming events.
