Mildura Rural City Council’s Draft Youth Engagement Strategy 2020-2023 has been released for public comment.

The strategy outlines how Council will support the development and well-being of young people aged 12 to 25 in our region for the coming three years

It will focus on three key areas:

  • Youth engagement and voice
  • Collaboration between local government and youth services for better youth outcomes
  • Awareness-raising about youth to better involve them in Council decision-making, and raising awareness across the community about the work of Council’s Youth Engagement Services.

Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Gavin Sedgmen said the strategy included an annual plan containing 43 specific actions, which would be reviewed regularly to ensure the strategy is responsive and can adapt as needed.

“Our young people are our region’s future, making it imperative we provide as much support as possible to ensure they are able to develop and grow,” Cr Sedgmen said.

“Key to the development of this strategy was consulting with the demographic we’re trying to support to ensure it’s relevant and meets their needs.

“Our Youth Services team surveyed more than 250 young people in our region to help inform the action plan that underpins the strategy.”
