Call goes out to join Respect Mallee campaign
Published on 21 November 2025
Mildura Rural City Council is partnering with 13 local and state agencies as part of the Respect Mallee campaign.
Taking place during the annual 16 Days of Activism, running from 25 November to 10 December, Respect Mallee has been created by a group of Mallee-based organisations to take action to prevent gender-based violence in our community.
Community groups, local businesses, schools and individuals are being encouraged to stand with our community to raise awareness, spark conversations, and take action to prevent violence against women, girls, and gender-based violence in our community as part of the campaign.
During the Respect Mallee campaign, participants will be asked to “turn orange” to show their commitment to respect, equality, and ending gender-based violence.
“We are encouraging individuals, schools, businesses, and organisations to get involved through campaign activities and make their support visible to others” Councillor for Community Development and Gender Equity Katie Clements said.
“According to the latest Crime Statistics Agency data, Mildura remains in the top five local government areas in Victoria when it comes to the number of family violence incidents recorded per 100,000 population.
“Our rate of reported offences is more than three times the state average, demonstrating how important this campaign is when it comes to taking action and bringing an end to gender-based violence in our community.
“The campaign, which is being backed by a numerous local and state organisations, encourages our community to stand together for a strong, united voice to promote respect, safety and equality across the Mallee.”
