Easing the cost of living in the Mildura Rural City Council municipality lies at the heart of Council’s Victorian Election advocacy priorities, which will now be used to fight for a larger slice of government funding for our region.

Council’s specific advocacy projects will be guided by the following themes, which have been identified as key channels to reduce the cost of living for residents and businesses in our community.

Sustainable Futures
Reducing cost pressures while protecting essential services and long-term resilience.

Growth through Infrastructure
Government investment to support strategic regional growth through funding for critical infrastructure, industry development and community-shaping projects.

Connected Affordable Transport
Lowering transport costs while improving access, safety and regional connectivity for communities, industry and regional workforce.

Homes for a Growing Community
Delivering housing supply that supports jobs, services and population growth.

“We know from what we’re hearing in our community - what our residents, businesses and farmers are telling us – that the cost of living is one of the biggest challenges they’re facing,” Mildura Mayor Ali Cupper said.

“Council has put together a comprehensive list of infrastructure projects and strategic initiatives that fall within these themes, which need additional government funding to make them a reality.

“This approach allows us to ensure our advocacy efforts to government clearly focus on the ‘why’. It’s about government understanding why we need investment in these key areas in our community.

“The specific projects that are put forward are essentially how we achieve these outcomes.

“This advocacy work will serve as a powerful tool for Council staff, Councillors and our Advisory Committees to advocate for action on the same priority projects with a united voice.

“And while this will be a powerful way to ensure our voice is heard in the lead up to this year’s Victorian Government election, it will also ensure we have a strong advocacy platform at Federal Government level as well.”

The full list of projects and initiatives are now available to view at Advocacy Initiatives and Projects
