Accessibility the aim for the Valentine’s Dance Party

Published on 04 February 2015

After a successful launch last year, the Mildura Arts Centre (MAC) is set to rock again this February when it partners with the Christie Centre to host the Don’t “dis” my ability on the dance floor Valentine’s Dance Party in the MAC foyer.

The event, which will be held on Friday 13 February from 6:30pm, will recreate a nightclub atmosphere allowing those with disabilities, their families and carers to have the full nightclub experience.

Arts and Culture portfolio Councillor Jill Joslyn said last year’s event was so well received, they are expecting the party to be even bigger and better this time.

“Everyone who came along last year had an absolute blast,” Cr Joslyn said.  “This year there will be even more dancing and heaps of prizes to win on the night.

“Many clubs and pubs in our area aren’t always easily accessible for people with a disability. It can be frustrating for young people who are unable to even get in to some venues, let alone manoeuvre through rooms crowded with people, stairs and furniture.”

To get everyone up and enjoying themselves, there’ll be a DJ and jukebox and all guests are encouraged to add a bit of Valentine’s Day sparkle to their outfits.

“There are limited tickets so get in quickly,” Cr Joslyn explained.  “This is a night for fun and being Valentine’s Day eve, there might even be a little bit of romance.  We want everyone to come and have a fabulous night.”

The Valentine’s Dance Party is open to anyone aged 17 over with tickets $10 each and available from MAC or online at www.milduraartscentre.com.au Drinks and catering will also be available to purchase at the café.  The party starts at 6:30pm and will go until 10pm.

More information is available from Mildura Arts Centre on (03) 5018 8330 or the Christie Centre on (03) 5023 2761.
