Expressions of interest are now open to join Council in delivering the Loddon Mallee Move It project in Mildura.

The project aims to reach approximately 70,000 people over the age of 65 throughout the Loddon Mallee, offering new and modified sport and recreation activities, strengthening partnerships and workforce capacity, and raising awareness of the benefits of regular physical activity.

Sporting groups, recreation providers, Primary Care Partnerships, local Councils, tertiary institutions and regional sporting assemblies are invited to submit an expression of interest to be part of the project.

Expressions of interest can be submitted between 1 July and 26 July. For information on the expression of interest process, including eligibility to apply for funding, visit www.mrsc.vic.gov.au/MoveIt.

This project received grant funding from the Australian Government through Sport Australia.

Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Min Poole said the Move It project would be particularly valuable and relevant to Sunraysia residents.

“Our region has an ageing population meaning we already have many residents who could benefit from this project,” Cr Poole said.

“Studies show that older people across the region have poorer health and wellbeing than the Victorian average.

“There are higher levels of obesity and chronic disease, and many older people have low levels of physical activity.

“Through Move It, we hope to get more of our older people moving and enjoying the benefits of regular physical activity, ultimately delivering great outcomes for residents in our region.”

Macedon Ranges Shire Council and Mildura Rural City Council are leading the implementation of this project. The 10 local government areas covered by this process are City of Greater Bendigo, Loddon Shire Council, Mount Alexander Shire Council, Central Goldfields Shire Council, Campaspe Shire Council, Mildura Rural City Council, Swan Hill Rural City Council, Gannawarra Shire Council, Buloke Shire Council and Macedon Ranges Shire Council.
