Mildura Arts Centre will receive almost $600,000 over the next three years from Creative Victoria as part of the State Government’s Regional Partnerships program.  The funding announcement includes $570,000 of core funding and $28,000 towards a new project, Arts of the Underground.

The Regional Partnerships Program core funding will provide $190,000 a year for the next three years and forms the basis on which most of the programs, exhibitions and performances are funded.  It is integral to the programming initiatives across the visual and performing arts in North West Victoria and provides MAC with the opportunity to showcase quality experiences across a diverse arts program for the community.

Arts & Culture portfolio Councillor Jill Joslyn said the additional funding for Arts of the Underground is particularly exciting.

Arts of the Underground is a new Engagement project and will see MAC transformed into a catalyst of lighting, sounds, music, dance, exhibitions, interaction, performance arts and more,” Cr Joslyn explained.

“We will be working with La Trobe University and SuniTAFE to foster a connection between Mildura Arts Centre and the learning institutions, to provide avenues for students to explore the arts scene, developing connections of their own, providing an ‘outlet’ for them once university studies are completed.”

This year, the program for MAC will focus on a number of areas across the visual arts, performing arts and community engagement looking at ways to make artistic, creative and cultural events accessible for a variety of audiences.

“From block-buster exhibitions of international acclaim, to local and emerging artist discoveries and events for children and adults alike, the diverse nature of our community means we need to be able show so many different performances, exhibitions and events,” Cr Joslyn said.

“MAC’s calendar is jam-packed again for the next twelve months and funding such as this helps Council to make sure these events are both exciting, affordable and relevant to our community.

“In our Diamond Jubilee year at MAC, it’s certainly wonderful to have our funding secured for another three years.”
