Ouyen residents are encouraged to celebrate national Children’s Week with Council by coming along to a free community event at Blackburn Park on Friday 25 October.

Children’s Week runs from Saturday 19 October to Sunday 27 October, with this year’s theme celebrating the right of children to be healthy, safe and happy.

Council has organised a host of activities for Ouyen residents to mark this year’s event, including a jumping castle, Enviro Edu animal demonstration, sausage sizzle and displays by emergency service organisations including the Country Fire Authority.

This free community event will run from 11am to 2pm.

Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Min Poole said the event was an opportunity to highlight and celebrate our children’s rights and achievements.

“We’re very fortunate to live in a municipality in which the majority of our children are healthy, safe and happy, and that’s certainly something to be celebrated,” Cr Poole said.

“It’s also a chance to celebrate those little everyday achievements that make us so proud of our children.”

The theme for national Children’s Week this year is based on Article 24 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and will see thousands of Victorian children aged from birth to 12 taking part in festivities.
