Mildura Arts and Culture Advisory Committee is seeking nominations for the 2017 Elliott Award.

The Elliott Award recognises an outstanding contribution to the arts in our community, particularly where that contribution has not previously been formally acknowledged.

Mildura Rural City Councillor for Arts and Culture Jason Modica said previous award recipients had been identified for a broad range of contributions to the arts.

“These contributions have included their length of service to the arts, the breadth of their contribution and their encouragement of children and youth in the arts,” Cr Modica said.

“Previous recipients have also been identified for their championing of arts involvement in the broader community, and the creation of a significant, positive community legacy to the development of the arts in our region.”

The Elliott Award has previously been awarded to Des Tobin (2006), Tom McCullough (2007), Vaughan Stirrat (2008), Neil Noyce (2009), Mollie Kalms (2010), Shirley Bowie (2011), Neil Fettling (2012) Kay Sylvester (2013), Peta‑Lynne Buchanan and Janine Kerr (2014), Leonard (Len) Krause (2015) and in 2016, Yvonne Hedley.

The Elliott Award was founded by the Mildura Arts and Culture Board (2004 –13) and from 2014 continued the under the guidance of the Mildura Arts and Culture Advisory Committee.

“It’s fantastic to see that, after well over a decade, the Mildura Arts and Culture Board’s legacy of acknowledging the passion and commitment to arts and culture in our community by people who might otherwise go unnoticed is being upheld,” Cr Modica said.

The Elliott Award will be selected by the Mildura Arts and Culture Advisory Committee and awarded and announced later this year.

Nomination forms are available from the Mildura Arts Centre website at www.milduraartscentre.com.au. Completed nomination forms and supporting documentation must be submitted by 4pm on Monday, 18 September.
