Community invited to help shape our future as we head Towards 2040

Mildura Rural City Council is checking back in with residents to see if any changes need to be made to their 20-year Community Vision.

The vision highlights what our community values most and sets out a long-term vision and key priorities to achieve these outcomes.

The Community Vision was developed in 2020 following extensive community consultation and feedback from thousands of residents throughout our municipality.

Mildura Mayor Liam Wood said that as the current four-year Council terms ends, it’s time to check back in with the community to ensure the Council Vision still reflects residents’ long-term priorities and aspirations as our region heads Towards 2040.

Feedback on the Vision will also be used to help inform the next four-year Council Plan, which will be developed in early 2025 with the new Council who will be elected later this year.

The Council Vision is underpinned by five themes focusing on:

  • Community and increasing opportunities for participation
  • The place we live – activating areas like our riverfront and other key projects
  • The environment and delivering on our goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save our community money
  • The economy, ensuring businesses continue to thrive and grow
  • Leadership and ensuring our community is at the heart of all decisions.

Some of progress made over the past four year includes:

  • Delivering the new-look Powerhouse Place
  • Establishing the Mildura Social and Affordable Housing Taskforce (MSAHT) comprising key agencies to advocate for affordable housing in our region
  • Delivering Stages 1 and 2 of the Mildura Sporting Precinct
  • Delivering Changing Places facilities at Powerhouse Place and Mildura Sporting Precinct
  • Awarding 60 individual grants, totalling more than $700,000 under three different categories (Events Funding and Support, Community Partnership and Recreation Assistance Grant Programs)
  • Switching to 100 per cent renewables for all Council buildings, facilities and public/street lighting
  • Implementing our Urban Tree Strategy, resulting in 2375 trees being planted between 2021 and 2023
