Christmas Tree Ornament Competition

Published on 21 October 2016

The Governor of Victoria, the Honourable Linda Dessau AM, and His Honour Judge Anthony Howard have invited Victorians to become involved in a Christmas Tree Ornament Competition.

Each Victorian Council has been invited to submit a decorative ornament that best represents their local area. The ornament will be displayed on the Government House Christmas tree from December 1, 2016.

Council is seeking to find the best ornament which they believes typifies our region.

“We’d like to invite Mildura Rural City Council residents to submit a Christmas ornament entry into our competition to win the honour of having their ornament displayed at Government House on their Christmas Tree,” Manager Leisure and Cultural Services, Ray Lyons said.

“Residents are encouraged to be creative and make an ornament which they believe best represents our region,” Mr Lyons said.

Entries can be submitted at the Visitor Information and Booking Centre by no later than 5pm Friday November 11, 2016 and must be accompanied by an entry form.

“The entry form is really important because we are wanting a description of your Christmas ornament. We want to hear from you, how it represents our region,” Mr Lyons said.

Entry forms can be picked up from the Visitor Information Centre at 180 Deakin Avenue, Mildura, or they can be emailed out upon request.

Entries will be judged by a local panel, with the winning entry announced Friday, November 18, 2016.

The winning entry will be forwarded to the Governor and will proudly represent the Mildura Region throughout the festive season. All other competition entries will be displayed on a dedicated Christmas tree at the Mildura Visitor Information and Booking Centre, as a part of the annual Christmas Tree Spectacular.

“In the past the Christmas Tree Spectacular has been very popular with both locals and people visiting Mildura. This year an extra element will be added, as we’ll have these competition entries on display as well,” Mr Lyons said.
