Supporting Older Adults: Practical Responses for Professionals

We’re partnering with Seniors Rights Victoria to facilitate free awareness sessions for the community and professionals.

Promoting dignity, respect, safety, and informed decision-making for older people.

Working with older people can sometimes lead to disclosures or concerns that indicate abuse, neglect, coercion, or mistreatment may be occurring. At other times, workers and professionals may observe signs that suggest an older person is at risk of harm within a family or caregiving relationship.

• Using an interactive family case study, this session will explore how to recognise indicators of elder abuse, identify risk factors, and respond appropriately within both professional and organisational contexts.
• Participants will gain practical strategies for responding to concerns, understanding referral and support pathways, and working in a way that supports the rights, safety, and autonomy of older people.
• The session will include discussion opportunities, time for questions, and take-home resources including presentation materials and additional support information.

This FREE session is suited to those whose work brings them into contact with older people in the community and includes a light lunch.
