Do you have dreams of becoming the next Hamish and Andy or Kyle and Jackie-O?

Mildura Rural City Council’s Youth Engagement Services team is partnering with HOTFM Community Radio to run a Youth Radio Program, paving the way for our region’s next radio stars to learn the tricks of the trade.

The project provides young people aged 12 to 25 with an opportunity to plan and deliver a youth radio program.

Through the initiative, participants will create, plan and present content on air, and represent local and new music, arts and ideas.

Expressions of interest are open until Friday 3 May, with those interested encouraged to complete an online expression of interest form at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/YouthRadio

Councillor for Community Health and Wellbeing Troy Bailey said the Youth Radio Program was a great opportunity for young people to work together to deliver content aimed at their peers.

“Community radio has been a breeding ground for a number of our country’s current radio stars, while also proving a great way to gain confidence with essential skills like public speaking and working in a team,” Cr Bailey said.

“This program will introduce participants to radio, including teaching them how to develop a run sheet, select music and write a segment script.

“They also learn more about community radio and why it’s important, learn more about interview techniques and program production and development.”

Youth Councillor Olivia Cirillo encouraged eligible young people to sign up for the program.

“This is a great opportunity to try something new after school, meet new people and develop some new skills,” Olivia said.
