Council and SuniTAFE are working together to ensure people with disabilities, as well as their carers, family and friends, are prepared for the rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) with a free mini expo next week.

To be held at the SuniTAFE Student Hub in Benetook Avenue from 10am to 2pm next Tuesday 22 January, the mini expo will feature exhibits from more than 25 service providers, catering for all ages, equipment, community and disability needs.

Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Min Poole said the mini expo was a valuable opportunity for local residents to learn more about the agencies and services available to support people with disability.

“Our region has already started the transition to the NDIS, which started on 1 January this year, ushering in a new era in the way support is provided to people with permanent and significant disabilities,” Cr Poole said.

“It’s vitally important local residents are informed and equipped with as much information as possible in relation to the services they’re able to access as the NDIS rolls out over the coming six months.

“By coming along to this mini expo, you’ll not only be able to learn more about the local and statewide services available under the NDIS, but importantly, how you can access these services.“
