We need your vision for the future of the Nichols Point rotunda

The Nichols Point community is being asked for its thoughts and ideas on the future of the town’s historic rotunda.

The more-than-100-year-old rotunda, located next to the Nichols Point Primary School, was the subject of a determined community campaign to save the historic structure in 2015 after it was earmarked for demolition by the Victorian Government.

With the structure’s future now guaranteed, Council is keen to hear the community’s views on how the rotunda and surrounding area can be used.

Residents can provide their thoughts in person at two consultation sessions later this week, or through an online survey.

The consultation sessions will be held at the rotunda on the following days:

Friday 13 December: 8.30am – 10am (convenient for parents dropping off children at the neighbouring Nichols Point Primary School)

Saturday 14 December: 9am – 10.30am.

Council staff will be at each session to discuss and take down residents’ views, as well as answer any questions they may have.

Residents can also take an online survey by visiting www.mildura.vic.gov.au/HaveYourSay

Councillor for Community Development and Gender Equality Helen Healy encouraged local residents, stakeholders and community groups in the Nichols Point area to take advantage of the opportunity.

“It was fantastic to see the passion and drive the Nichols Point community showed to save the rotunda several years ago,” Cr Healy said.

“It shows residents really do care about their town and its history.

“Our upcoming community consultation sessions are a chance for residents to take the next step and let us know how they’d like the rotunda and surrounding area to be used, and the role it could play in their town.”
