2020 General Council Election training and information sessions

There are a series of both compulsory and voluntary training and information sessions in coming weeks for potential candidates in the 2020 General Council Elections.

The sessions are designed to provide potential candidates with all the information they need ahead of the election, including the role of local government, the election process, and expectations and obligations.

All sessions will be held online.

Local Government Victoria (LGV) Mandatory Local Government Candidate Training
Dates: available August (mandatory)

Under the Local Government Act 2020, this training is mandatory for all candidates, including current Councillors intending to stand again.

This training is available in August, at no cost to participants, and can be accessed via the Local Government Victoria website at www.localgovernment.vic.gov.au/council-governance/candidate-training

Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) Stand for Council Community and Candidate Information Session
Dates: August 31. 2pm to 4pm

Council has engaged MAV to provide a two-hour interactive online session that will provide community members and prospective candidates with information about the role and purpose of local government. This will include information on the role, responsibilities and expectations of Councillors, and the electoral process.

Mildura Rural City Council Virtual Candidate Information Sessions
Dates:   Monday 7 September 11am to 12pm
Tuesday 8 September 4pm to 5pm
Thursday 10 September 6pm to 7pm

These sessions complement the mandatory training provided by Local Government Victoria and will provide local context around what it means to be a Councillor in our municipality.
