Our region boasts a proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, and a rich association to the culture and heritage of the First Peoples of Australia.

Ngiwa Yarna Committee

The Ngiwa Yarna Committee was established in late 2011 as a way of strengthening Council’s relationships and engagement with the local Aboriginal community.

National Sorry Day

National Sorry Day is held on 26 May each year to acknowledge and recognise members of Australia’s Stolen Generations.

National Reconciliation Week marks a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how we can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
