Experienced local government CEO and senior executive Allan Bawden has been appointed Council’s Interim Chief Executive Officer following his endorsement at this week’s Ordinary Council Meeting.

Mr Bawden has more than 30 years’ experience as a CEO and senior executive and will take over as Interim CEO of Mildura Rural City Council on Monday 4 March.

His vast experience in the local government sector includes 18 years as inaugural CEO of Bass Coast Shire Council, during which time he led the establishment of the Council following the amalgamation of several municipalities in the area in 1994.

Prior to this, Mr Bawden was CEO of City of Morwell during a period of massive Local Government restructure in the 1990s.

He was awarded a Public Service Medal as part of the 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours for outstanding public service to the Bass Coast and Gippsland regions.

Mr Bawden also served in a variety of senior/management roles with City of South Melbourne and has extensive experience on numerous State Government boards, committees and panels.

Most recently he served as Interim Chief Executive Officer of Ararat Rural City Council following a Commission of Inquiry into the governance of the organisation. During this time he actioned all recommendations of the Commission and served a pivotal role in rebuilding the Council.

Mildura Mayor Simon Clemence said Mr Bawden’s experience and expertise made him the ideal person to lead Council through the transition to a new CEO.

“As a former CEO of several large Victorian Councils, and with a wealth of experience in the local government sector, Allan will be a great asset to Council while we undertake the recruitment of a permanent CEO,” Cr Clemence said.
