Community groups encouraged to apply for up to $10,000 in grants

Grants of up to $10,000 are now available for not-for-profit community groups across our municipality as part of Mildura Rural City Council’s Community Grant Program.

Councillor for Community Development and Gender Equity Helen Healy said the program was a great way for the region’s hard-working community groups to fund their projects, many of which benefit the broader community.

Applications are currently open for both Small (up to $6,000) and Large (up to $10,000) grants and can be made up until 4pm on Monday 22 August. For more information visit www.mildura.vic.gov.au/grants

Cr Healy said one of the major benefits of the Community Grants program was the broad range of projects it could potentially support. Examples include:

• Establishment of arts groups and/or support for existing groups
• A heritage or environmental trail
• Online educational resources and training
• Revegetation activities
• Creative Arts Industries and design projects
• Energy audits or works to improve energy efficiency
• Solar installation on community buildings
• Projects that build social and cultural connections, or enhance health and wellbeing
• Projects that support inclusion of vulnerable people through volunteering.

“We’re so fortunate to have a large and diverse range of dedicated community groups in our region who are passionate about their projects and our community,” Cr Healy said.

“Our Community Grant program provides us with an opportunity to partner with these amazing groups to ensure they can continue to deliver their initiatives, or come up with exciting new projects.”

Girl Guides Victoria – Mallee Region is a recent successful Community Grant recipient, applying for $6,000 to purchase camping equipment for its Let’s Go Camping initiative.

Regional Manager for Mallee Girl Guides Victoria Maree Whitehead said the initiative aimed to ensure local Girl Guides for the first time had all the equipment needed to go camping without needing to borrow items.

“Our Community Grant has enabled us to purchase an entire setup for a small campsite, including tents, gazebos, cooking equipment, seating, torches, lighting and butane gas stoves,” Maree said.

“Essentially it means the girls can now pack up all that equipment and go camping and be self-sufficient, which is something we didn’t have before.

“The girls now have the opportunity to learn all the valuable skills you pick up through camping, which they’ll keep with them for life.”
