Do you hold a Mildura Rural City Council library card? Your local library card will now give you access to over 100 libraries and their resources across Victoria.

Mildura Rural City Council’s Library Service has been a member of the Swift Consortium of libraries for a number of years, with library patrons able to access to books and other library materials via inter library loans. The new ‘Swift One Card’ will now allow members to directly access any public library branch in the Swift Consortium network.

Arts and Culture portfolio Councillor Jill Joslyn said this is great for local readers and library users.

“There are many benefits of a Swift One Card. You can borrow and return items from over 100 libraries across Victoria,” Cr Joslyn explained. “There is no need for multiple library cards filling your wallet and patrons will have access to a wider range of collections.

“No matter where you travel throughout Victoria, whether holidaying along the Murray, visiting regional centres like Ballarat or spending time in Melbourne you can walk into a Swift One library and borrow or return items.”

There is no need to replace your existing library card. As a member of any Council’s of libraries you are automatically a member of the Swift Consortium and can receive the privileges of a Swift One Card, with a Swift sticker is all that is needed to access the program. The sticker will be added to current library membership cards and you can start borrowing straight away.

“A great aspect of the system is that you can take care of any fees or fines at a participating Swift Consortium library, take out loans and return resources where ever you are,” Cr Joslyn said. “All Swift One Card libraries set their own loan periods, rules for borrowing and fines for overdue items, so you will need to familiarise yourself with the rules of the libraries you borrow from.”

The Swift One Card library services closest to Mildura are the Wimmera Regional Library Corporation to the South and South East and the Swan Hill Regional Library to the East.

Swift One Cards can be used at mobile libraries as well as permanent town libraries.
