Mildura Rural City Council will set up a pop-up weed information stall in the Langtree Mall later this month, providing a chance for the community to learn more about the weeds in our region, and how to get rid of them.

Whether you’re a home gardener or a farming property owner, weeds are a common pest, particularly after a little rain.

This month’s weed information stall, which will operate from 9am to 12pm on Thursday 25 October, will help residents identify the weeds on their property and provide tips on how to manage them.

Councillor for Farming and Environmental Sustainability Anthony Cirillo encouraged residents to take advantage of the stall.

“This is the perfect time of the year to take action on weeds, whether it be in your garden or on your farming property, and our information stall will provide you with all the information you need to re-take control of your property,” Cr Cirillo said.

Common weeds in the Sunraysia region include Caltrop and Khaki weed in residential areas, and Prickly Pear, African Boxthorn, Boneseed and Bridal Creeper in farming areas.

Cr Cirillo said that in addition to identifying and eradicating weeds, this month’s information stall would also provide tips on how to properly dispose of weeds.

“This is an important aspect, because if weeds aren’t disposed of in the right way, you’re simply moving the problem from one area to another,” he said.

Council’s Environmental Sustainability team will also provide information on our Bushland Watch Program and native vegetation clearing, both of which are important to protect our region’s natural environment.
