Local audiences are set for a magical, musical treat when Zulya and the Children of the Underground return to Mildura to perform at Mildura Arts Centre on Saturday 19 September.

The acclaimed Australian performers have been in the studio working on a new album and are taking time out of their recording schedule to perform their new show, Fairytale Noir around Victoria.

Arts and Culture portfolio Councillor Jill Joslyn was pleased to see Zulya and the Children of the Underground include Mildura Arts Centre on their tour program and said the amazing band will blow audiences away with their musical arrangements and lead singer and guitarist Zulya Kamalova’s rich and emotive vocals.

Zulya and The Children of the Underground are an ARIA winning band who’s Tatar and Russian sounds are truly unique,” Cr Joslyn said. “Fairy tales are woven through this performance and come to life in mysterious, beautiful and sometimes frightening clarity.”

Zulya has taken inspiration from her Tatar heritage and her interest in the fairy-tale world of storytelling and riddles in creating this performance. The five members of The Children of the Underground are a talented group on their own, playing accordion, trumpet, guitar, double bass, and percussion.

Presented by Mildura Arts Centre and Regional Arts Victoria Fairytale Noir by Zulya and the Children of the Underground is Saturday 19 September at 7:30pm.

Tickets are available online at www.milduraartscentre.com.au, from Mildura Arts Centre and the Mildura Visitor Information and Booking Centre or by telephoning (03) 5018 8330.
