Sunraysia’s young artists seeking to have their work viewed by a wider audience are encouraged to enter this year’s FReeZA Youth Art Prize.

Entries opened this week and are open to young people aged between 12 and 25 who currently live, study or work in the Mildura Rural City Council municipality at the time of entry.

Portfolio Councillor for Community Development Min Poole said the competition, sponsored by Mildura Rural City Council FReeZA, was a great opportunity for local artists to be discovered.

“We have some fantastic young artists in our region across a range of different genres, and this is the perfect way for them to have their talents recognised,” Cr Poole said.

“It’s also a chance for the broader community to appreciate the artwork produced by our younger residents, which will hopefully encourage them to continue in their chosen art form.”

Artwork will be accepted in four categories – painting, drawing, photography and graphic design, with separate age groups from each category.

Entries for the FReeZA Youth Art Prize are open until 5pm on Friday, 28 July. Artists’ work will then go on exhibition at the Mildura Visitor Information Centre from Saturday, 5 August until Monday, 21 August.

Winners will be announced at the official exhibition opening at 6pm on Thursday, 17 August at the Mildura Visitor Information Centre.

Entry forms can be downloaded from the Youth Services page of Council’s website.

Completed entry forms and a photo of contestants’ artwork must be sent electronically to Mildura Rural City Council’s Youth Services at youthservices@mildura.vic.gov.au.
