Mildura Rural City Council will take its strong support for White Ribbon Australia to the streets of Adelaide this weekend when its team takes part in the City-Bay Fun Run under the White Ribbon banner.

The brainchild of Council staff member and White Ribbon supporter Jason Kane, the team of eight Council staff formed about two months ago as part of the organisation’s ongoing commitment to White Ribbon Australia and have been training twice a week in preparation for the event, which will be held this Sunday, 17 September.

Council’s White Ribbon Committee Chair and General Manager Development, Mandy Whelan, said the team’s entry was one of numerous White Ribbon Australia initiatives Council undertakes each year.

“This is another way we can show our support, and importantly, raise awareness about White Ribbon on a much larger scale, and it’s fantastic to see Council staff embracing our support for White Ribbon in this way,” Ms Whelan said.

“Our team’s entry has already attracted metropolitan media interest, which only helps achieve our ultimate aim, which is to reduce incidents of violence against women through continually raising awareness.”

Since forming two months ago, Council’s White Ribbon Run team has already raised more than $3000 for White Ribbon Australia and is encouraging the community to continue supporting the team ahead of the event. To donate visit https://citybay2017.everydayhero.com/au/mrcc-white-ribbon-running-team

The City-Bay Fun Run started more than 40 years ago and is one of the biggest fun runs in Australia, in the past attracting more than 40,000 participants. This year’s event will take participants from the centre of Adelaide to Glenelg.

Council’s team will complete in either the 12-kilometre or six-kilometre run, or walk the six-kilometre course as part of the event, with individual team members covering their own entry fees, travel and accommodation costs, as well as training in their own time, outside of working hours.
