Melbourne Recital Centre in association with Mildura Arts Centre present Nikolai Demidenko in Mildura for one performance only next Wednesday, 31 May at 7.30pm.

Nikolai Demidenko is a musician who continues to astonish each time he appears on stage, and next Wednesday’s program of Scarlatti and Schubert will show exactly why, appealing to both classical music enthusiasts and students alike.

Moving effortlessly from Baroque Spain to Romantic Vienna in the one performance, Demidenko’s renowned versatility will be on show in this rare opportunity for Mildura audiences to see him perform in their home town.

Mildura Rural City Councillor for Arts and Culture Jason Modica said next week’s performance at the Mildura Arts Centre highlighted the benefits of partnering with the Melbourne Recital Centre.

“These types of partnerships allow us to experience world-renowned performances right here in Mildura,” Cr Modica said.

“They’re performances we as a community wouldn’t have the opportunity to see without travelling to a major city or overseas, and importantly, ticket prices are affordable for our community.”

Schubert’s late sonatas have been described as “painfully intimate” and Demidenko’s performances of them an “impeccable balance of strength and gentleness” by Gramophone Magazine.

Scarlatti’s Baroques meanwhile span the entire spectrum of emotions, from “dazzling chases across keyboards” and light-hearted, playful guitar sections through to more sombre and emotive performances, all of which Demidenko has perfected.

This project is supported by RACV Music for Victoria, and the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria.
