Sunraysia residents are being asked to share their thoughts, understanding and habits regarding how they manage waste as Mildura Rural City Council develops its Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy.

The strategy aims to reduce waste going to landfill and maximise resource recovery in our region over the next five years.

A community survey is now open to capture residents' understanding, attitudes and behaviours when it comes to managing waste, which will play an important role in development of the strategy according to Councillor for Environment and Sustainability Jodi Reynolds.

"Ultimately our community, including us as Councillors and residents of our region, can have a massive influence on how we manage waste in our municipality through simple habits at home and how we manage our waste," Cr Reynolds said.

"As a community, we'll also be the major beneficiaries of effective management of waste and resource recovery in our municipality, ensuring sustainability of our region for generations to come.

"By becoming involved and taking part in this survey, it will inform the direction of the new strategy, and help us determine preferred areas in which to better engage our community on managing waste."

The survey is open until 26 November and allows participants to complete questions in one of three categories – residents, businesses or schools. It only takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete and can be taken in a number of ways:
