Nominations for the 2018 FReeZA Committee open next week, providing a chance for young people in our region to gain skills and experience which could benefit them for decades to come.

Mildura’s FReeZA program is coordinated by Council’s Youth Services team and provides young people aged 16 to 25 with the opportunity to lead the planning and staging of live music and cultural events for the community.

Funded by the State Government, the program is open to young people who either live, work or study in the Council municipality and provides a unique opportunity for real world experience in a diverse range of areas.

Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Ali Cupper encouraged Sunraysia’s younger residents to consider becoming involved.

“Whether it’s gaining experience in their chosen field of interest, meeting like-minded people their own age or networking opportunities that could lead to career and other prospects, there are just so many benefits to being a FReeZA Committee member,” Cr Cupper said.

Committee members will be responsible for producing, promoting and evaluating five events within the Mildura municipality next year.

Cr Cupper said that while being part of the FReeZA program required a significant level of commitment from members, it offered even more in personal rewards and experience.

To participate in the program, nominees must be aged 16 to 25 as of 1 January, 2018 and live, work or study in the Council area.

Nominees must also be able to attend at least 80 per cent of monthly committee meetings as well as at least 80 per cent of events and training and being an active participant until November 2018.

Nominations open on Monday, 30 October and must be submitted by 1 December this year.

Nomination forms and more information is available on Council’s website by searching for ‘FReeZA Committee”.
