Make sure your pet is registered

Pet owners, if you didn’t register your cat or dog by the April 10 deadline, your pet is now unregistered and you could be fined.

All cats and dogs over three months must be registered with Mildura Rural City Council, which helps ensure lost animals can be reunited with their owners if found by Council staff or returned to Council’s Animal Shelter.

Newly registered pets must also be microchipped.

Council staff will be door-knocking pet owners in coming weeks to ensure their animals are registered. Owners who do not register their pets will be fined.

Councillor for Community Safety Simon Clemence said it was in pet owners’ best interests to register their animals.

“Pet registration is compulsory in Victoria and is a valuable tool for pet owners who may lose their animals, as their pets can quickly and easily be identified if they’re found by Council staff or returned by a member of the public,” Cr Clemence said.

Pet registration fees vary depending on the animal and whether it has been de-sexed. Pensioner discounts are also available.
