Cemeteries

Important Community Notice – COVID-19

Whilst the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis are continually evolving, we are working with the latest advice from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to adapt our services and procedures to protect the health and wellbeing of our employees, partners and the community we serve.

We encourage our community to continue to adhere to all current Victorian Government directives, and if you can stay at home, please do so.  Our cemetery locations will be open to those attending a funeral, organising a funeral and visiting a grave.

Attending a funeral:

Effective Wednesday, 13 May 2020, social distancing guidelines permit up to 30 attendees for interments. The 30-person limit includes family members but does not include funeral director(s) or Mildura Cemetery Trust employees. If you’re feeling unwell, or have travelled overseas - or on a cruise in last 14 days, please abstain from entering our cemeteries.  Please note that social distancing measures still apply, and all attendees must maintain the required 1.5 metre minimum person-to-person spacing.

Visiting a grave:

From Wednesday, 13 May 2020, members of the public can visit our cemetery grounds, noting that those visiting graves with family and friends need to adhere to a 10 person maximum at any one time.  All members of the gathering also need to observe social distancing by maintaining a minimum of 1.5 metre person-to-person spacing.

Alternative ways to remember your loved ones while staying at home include lighting a candle or holding a virtual remembrance with family and friends.

Plot selection:

We ask that those wishing to select a plot observe social distancing by maintaining a minimum of 1.5 metre person-to-person spacing.

We understand the added grief these new restrictions place on families, and we empathise with those who’re affected by these unprecedented times.

We have notified local Funeral Directors of these changes. They will continue to guide you on arrangements and discuss options for filming your service, for those who are unable to attend on the day.

We’re here to support you:

We understand the importance of saying goodbye to loved ones and appreciate the added difficulty of restrictions imposed on families, but we have a shared responsibility to comply with the Australian Governments public health measures to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Whilst our Murray Pines Cemetery Support Centre has temporarily closed its doors, our team are committed in continuing to provide our community with the same care and support via email cemeterytrust@mildura.vic.gov.au and phone (03) 5018 8260, during our usual business hours 9am – 3:30pm, Monday – Friday, with lunch from 12:30pm – 1pm).

Our grounds staff continue to work on-site, and for maintenance issues are contactable on 0419 397 901.

Public Toilets

Social distancing measures have seen a significant decrease in use of some public toilets. A number of facilities across the region remain temporarily closed until further notice, while other facilities located near recreational areas will reopen following changes to Stay at Home restrictions announced by the Victorian Premier on 11 May 2020.

Playgrounds, outdoor gym equipment and skate parks

Local playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor gym equipment will reopened from 11.59pm Monday 25 May 2020.

Please remember:

  • Groups of 10 or less can utilise an area at any one time
  • Stay 1.5m apart from others
  • Stay home if you're unwell
  • Wash your hands after using equipment and before eating or touching your face

Boat ramps

Boat ramps on the Victorian side of the Murray River will reopen to those engaging in recreational fishing and boating following changes to COVID-19 restrictions announced by the Premier on 11 May 2020. Groups of no more than 10 people are allowed to engage in recreational fishing from a riverbank, however a physical distance of 1.5 metres must be maintained at all times. Under the new directions, recreational boating is also allowed - physical distancing and mass gathering rules apply at all times. For more information visit the Department of Health and Human Services website.
