How much kindergarten costs?

All kindergartens charge fees to help meet the cost of running kindergarten programs. Fees are set by the individual kindergarten and depends on how many hours your child attends and whether there are extra costs such as excursions.

What is funded kindergarten?

Funded kindergarten is when the fees are partly paid by the Victorian government directly to the kindergarten. This keeps fees low and kindergarten accessible to families. In 2022, five (5) hours of three year old kindergarten and fifteen (15) hours of four year old kindergarten will be funded.

What is the Kindergarten fee subsidy?

The kindergarten fee subsidy allows children to access kindergarten at low or no cost to families that are eligible.

This is five (5) hours of three year old kindergarten and fifteen (15) hours of four year old kindergarten.

Your child is eligible for kindergarten fee subsidy if your child:

  • is Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • is identified on the birth certificate as being a multiple birth (triplets or more)

or if you child or has a parent or guardian who holds, one of the following:

  • a Commonwealth Health Care Card
  • a Commonwealth Pensioner Concession Card
  • a Department of Veterans Affairs Gold Card or White Card
  • Refugee or Asylum Seeker visa (200-204, 786 or 866)
  • Bridging visas for any of the above Refugee or Asylum Seeker visas

You will be required to supply your concession card, visa, birth certificate or other relevant documents to kindergarten central enrolment and the kindergarten, on request.
