Elliott Award a chance to highlight outstanding contribution to arts
Published on 05 September 2019
Mildura Arts and Culture Advisory Committee is seeking nominations for the 2019 Elliott Award.
The Elliott Award recognises an outstanding contribution to the arts in our community, particularly where that contribution has not previously been formally acknowledged.
Previous recipients of the award have been recognised for:
- length of service to the arts
- breadth of their contribution throughout the term of their involvement in the arts
- encouragement and nurturing of children and youth in arts practice
- championing of arts involvement to the broader community
- creation of a significant positive community legacy to the development of the arts in our community.
Councillor for Arts and Culture Jason Modica encouraged local residents to nominate someone they think deserving of recognition.
“We’re fortunate to have such a vibrant arts community in our region, whether it be the performing arts or visual arts, taking in everyone from those who’ve dedicated countless years to passing on their knowledge, or simply artists who’ve contributed significantly through their own works,” Cr Modica said.
“This is a prime opportunity to ensure their efforts don’t go unrecognised.”
The Elliott Award was founded by the Mildura Arts and Culture Board (2004-13) and from 2014 continued under the guidance of the Mildura Arts and Culture Advisory Committee.
Previous winners include Des Tobin (2006), Tom McCullough (2007), Vaughan Stirrat (2008), Neil Noyce (2009), Mollie Kalms (2010), Shirley Bowie (2011), Neil Fettling (2012) Kay Sylvester (2013), Peta‑Lynne Buchanan and Janine Kerr (2014), Leonard (Len) Krause (2015), Yvonne Hedley (2016), Henry Tankard (2017) and Mavis Francis (2018).
