The Mildura Riverfront Precinct Redevelopment is one of Mildura’s most exciting public works projects and aims to establish Mildura as Victoria’s most significant inland river city.

Stage 1 - Completed

Timeframe: Completed in 2017

Stage 1 of the Mildura Riverfront Precinct Redevelopment revitalised a 1.2 km stretch of public land between the Nowingi Place and the Powerhouse next to Jaycee Park. The works unlocked the potential of Mildura's iconic Murray River setting and connected the city heart CBD to the river. More than 3 million people have flocked to the riverfront precinct since the site was transformed with a range of new infrastructure, including:

  • Langtree Connection - a series of ramps and stairs providing pedestrian, wheelchair, bicycle and pram access from the CBD, across the railway line and to the river beyond
  • Water play - a free and interactive splash park integrated with the natural envirnment
  • Redevelopment of the Mildura Rowing Club, incorporating a cafe overlooking the river
  • A pedestrian promenade, footpaths and outdoor furtinutre
  • Outdoor gym equipment
  • Landscaping
  • Public art and sculptures
  • Repairs to the crib wall railway embankment
  • Lighting and signage
  • Upgrades to the Mildura Skate Park
  • New public toilets at Nowingi Place

Stage 2 - In development

Stage 2 of Riverfront Precinct Redevelopment covers nine hectares of publicly and privately-owned land adjacent to the rail line between Madden Avenue and Walnut Avenue, Mildura.   

This second stage of the project will capitalise on Stage 1 with a focus on Mildura’s significant tourism spend, investing in key infrastructure to showcase Mildura’s assets including the Murray River and its rich Indigenous cultural heritage. It aims to provide cultural, tourism and commercial opportunities, residential land releases, and  improve community wellbeing through increased employment in the hospitality and tourism sectors.

Council endorsed a revised Masterplan to guide Stage 2 in January 2019 and is advocating for funding to realise its potential.

Powerhouse Precinct Redevelopment

The first phase of Stage 2 will see the historic Powerhouse building, adjacent car park and its immediate surrounds transformed. This $6 million project will get underway in November 2020 and works are scheduled for completion in mid 2022.
