Swimming Pools & Spas
Council monitors all public swimming pools and spas to ensure compliance with Health Regulations. This involves water testing for pH and disinfectant levels as well as sampling to ensure that bacterial levels are kept to acceptable levels.
Private swimming pools and spas
Swimming pool and spa owners are encouraged to monitor and maintain water quality at all times and undertake treatment when necessary. Council can provide advice on water quality standards and treatment.
All swimming pools and spas that can hold 300mm of water or more must be securely fenced. This is a legal requirement set by the Building Commission. Council Building Inspectors can provide advice on pool and spa safety barriers. Alterations to existing barriers or construction of new pool barriers require a building permit. Full details about swimming pool and spa safety barrier requirements are available from the Building Commission.
