| Vernon has served on Council for two consecutive terms with portfolio responsibility for Economic & Community
Development.
He also Chairs the Alliance of Councils for Rail Freight Development and was instrumental in establishing Council’s Community Engagement Project.
With his wife Chris, he has raised six children during his thirty years as a resident of Mildura.
Vernon is employed as the CEO of Mallee Family Care and holds an adjunct professorship from La Trobe University.
He was awarded membership of the Order of Australia for
service to the community in January 2002. Vernon
has previously chaired the Board of the new Mildura
Base Hospital and served as a member of the Mildura
Wentworth Arts Festival.
He continues as Deputy Chair of SUNRISE 21 – the Sunraysia Rural Initiative for a Sustainable Environment.
